True Love (The first show)
In 1999, I had my gallery debut at The Propeller Centre. I shared the space with a friend from university who'd studied art with me. She was just back from South Korea where she'd been teaching abroad and had had a show. I was seriously getting into illustration and had this conceptual sort of idea as a starting point for a gallery show. My naive style and comicbook sensibilities were used to bring to life a photo story also known as a photo romance or photo novella. In the paintings I played with colour, pattern, lines and shapes to create the mood of the different characters. I had so much fun and so did the viewers that I continued this project for two more shows.
